Show and Tell Friday!

Oh boy! I found another "share along"! I enjoy these because it's so fun to see how other bloggy gals do their "thing". I just stumbled on Show and Tell Friday via Tales From An O.C. Cottage. Kelli at There Is No Place Like Home is the lovely hostess. Why don't you play too? I love seeing people's treasures. So, this is something I have actually never talked about or shared before. This is a tiny bit of my Wexford collection. There is nothing special about Wexford- it's just pressed glass from Anchor Hocking that first came out in the late fifties I believe and it was made until the mid-eighties. I could be completely wrong about those dates, but I'm pretty sure that's the range anyway. My grandma had Wexford and so did my mother. I never thought about it- it was just regular glassware to me while growing up. In fact, I remember donating what I had to Goodwill back in the early eighties when I was setting up house for the first time. I had bought a full set of "modern" drinking glasses and didn't want my odds and ends anymore!

After my grandma died in 1996, I was the happy recipient of her Magnalite pots and some of her other kitchenwares, including a few Wexford goblets. Seeing those goblets made me so happy and nostalgic! I began noticing Wexford at my usual thrift stores and starting picking up pieces. What you see in the cupboard above is just a portion of what I have. I have mostly vessels, but I sure wish I could get my hands on some dinner, dessert plates and platters. They aren't nearly as common, but I know Anchor Hocking did make them. Someday, someday!

I love this stuff because it's so durable! Yes, sometimes we break a piece, but not as much as we would with thinner glass. This is thick and heavy and I just think it's pretty. I know it's not as nice as crystal, but I can afford this and it's just so special to me.

Will you join in Show and Tell Friday? I would love to see what you share! Go visit Kelli and get signed up!

You have a really nice collection of glassware and it is really nice that it is so durable. I remember this type of glass from my mom. How fun to fun more pieces!

I have been collecting the same Wexford for some time now. I didn't know it was called Wexford. But thanks for letting me know.

I must brag a bit because, I have several serving trays and plates. I also have a divided "nut" dish...I guess your suppost to serve nuts in it or maybe it's a relish tray? Anyway it's divided into three sections. I also have the ice bucket.

My mother collected it too. What I don't have and have been looking for is the pitcher...which you have. I remember being about 5 and dropping it on the floor. By accident...of course. My mother had made Tang in it. Gee, does that date me? LOL!

I'll keep my eye out for those plates and serving platters for you.

Talk to you again soon!

I like the way you have displayed your nice collection of this glass. Too bad you gave some you had away before you came to appreciate it :o(

I'm glad you joined Show & Tell! It is fun to see everyone's posts. That is a lovely collection - so pretty! I've done that before - given away things I wish I hadn't!! But you never know what'll interest you and you can't keep everything!

Those are so pretty Bettsi! I hadn't heard of Wexford other than being a place in Ireland. LOL I do like it when I get an education.

Thank you for your visit and for leaving a comment.

Thank you for the Wexford lesson. I've seen Wexford, probably even have a piece or two somewhere. It really is very pretty and anything that is durable is a plus for certain.

Hi, thanks for stopping by.
My EFA dolls are about 11 inches, give or take with the hair, the same size as all my "baby" EFA dolls.

Thanksgiving will be different, I just wish it could be with all my children and grandchildren, it has been such a long, long time since we were all together, so it will be bittersweet, I leave 2 in NJ to visit 1 in Vermont and the other 2 with the grandchildren are in Florida!

I have the same two pitchers you have in your cupboard! One belonged to my mother and the other to my husband's mother. I love china, I have too many sets of dishes and can only use/display a few! Today I went to Home Goods and almost bought a few odds/ends of plates in browns/blacks/red, but put them back, I do not have room nor need anymore!

I have to go see your EFA doll on etsy. . .take care,

OH, I never did see the video for Dance, I love Garth Brooks! My daughter and I would sing along with him when we listened to the CD. . .kids grow up to fast and leave. . .I miss doing that silly stuff with her!

Your collection is wonderful. Don't you think food has to taste better on special things like that? I have a collection of pink depression glass which I started back in my early teens and it is special in a similar way. Perhaps I will get some photos up.

My mom had some of this when I was growing up, so your post brought back memories! I didn't know that's what it was called, though. I feel much smarter now. -Julia :-)

P.S. My blog has moved. I'm now at http://hookedonhouses.net.
